Game-specific groups

In Games

Hello. I'm wondering what "game specific" groups people would be interested in me adding to the list(currently 'Zelda' and 'Final Fantasy'). To add a group, I'll need at least 2 people to say they want it, simply because I don't want a mostly dead group. Thoughts?

Thanks.

I could support a Ninja Gaiden or Megaman group. Or maybe we could add a new group for specific genres.

Just a thought.

I like the Ninja Gaiden idea, though I don't know how active that would be. Megaman would be awesome. I did a search, and there are 12 topics where Castlevania is mentioned. Maybe that?

Well, if I can get a Castlevania game I'm sure I'll be an active participant. I should have Megaman coming to me quite soon, so I'll be in that group if it happens to come into being.

So far:

Megaman
Ninja Gaiden

I haven't seen an official second for Castlevania yet. Anything else? I'd suggest "Super Mario Bros. Series". Anyone second?

I would second SMB, but what's left to be said about it?

I'd second that. Mario is what made the NES big in the first place! I believe their top selling game ever was Super Mario Bros. 3. I could be mistaken, though.

We can talk about that video some more. Or we can talk about the SMB/Doki-Doki controversy. Or about warp whistles. Or why Nintendo chose a racoon for Mario in SMB3-- the cape in Super Mario World on the SNES is much less weird, IMO... Oh, and then there's tactics, cheats, time trials, etc. I wonder how fast anyone can get through SMB1 or SMB3 without cheating(warping is legal).

OK, if you think people will start conversations such as those, I can second it, those sound interesting enough.

Is there a way to move topics to different subjects? (i.e. the Doki-Doki thread to the Game Specific Mario section)

to my knowledge there is, I'm not a phpBB pro, but I've been on a few phpBB boards before, and topics have been moved.

Castlevania would be an excellent choice since it has about 15 games crossing over 10 or more consoles.

And what about 'Metal Gear'?

Or 'Master Chu & the Drukard Hu'?

...

OK scrap that last one.

I think there is, but I'll have to look into it.

OK. Here's the updated list so far:

Super Mario Bros.
Castlevania
Megaman
Ninja Gaiden

Games needing a second:
Metal Gear

Thanks.

I second that emotion! ...errr motion. I guess it depends on how deep you get into the storyline which word to use there!

Super Mario Bros. definatly! Also, what about a forum dedicated to nes rpg's.

I was thinking about something like that, too. There are cool games that we don't talk about much that probably couldn't have it's on forum on (i.e. Dragon Warriors, Ultimas, Shadowgate, etc.). Would it be under Game Specific?

I think a group dedicated to RPGs would be a good idea, the current Zelda, and FF groups aren't very active...

Maybe it can be changed from Game Specific to Genre Specific. I wonder if that would work better or not?

I was thinking that myself, but that would kill the 'games' group I think. it's really hard to figure out what you want to add as a new group without subtracting from the others.

I know this is a Message board specifically for the nes, but couldnt we have a forum layout that incorporates more aspects of gaming such as:
Demo of Forums:

Systems:
NES
SNES
N64
Gamecube
Ps
Ps2
XBox
Dreamcast
Sega Genesis
Ect.

Game Specific
Sonic
Mario
Zelda
ect.

Genre Specific
Actrion
RPG
Shooter
Horror
ect.

Other:
Off topic
ect.

I think this could really broaden conversation if systems were given their own individual forums (Besides lesser known systems that can be grouped together into an "Other Systems" category. This could really give the boards a more professional touch. What do you guys think?

I don't think if we were to add more systems that we should stray from Nintendo... if we add other systems and they become the hot area... well that's hardly fitting for a website called The NES Files, now is it?

True, but I'm just trying to make the place more inclusive to all gamers. That way we can get many different gamers on the boards other than just NES veterans.

bah, we're the hardcore elite. who needs playstation babies?

I'm not sure. When people do searches on Google for the newer systems, and whatnot, I'm sure that the links to the forums for those would pop-up. I do like the layout, though. I'm just not sure if it's suitable or not. Maybe for the Nintendo systems, and keep the others under modern systems? I don't know.

I agree. I would be more than willing to setup another forum seperate from The NES Files(

What ever works, man. Just keep up the good work and cool ideas!

I say we should keep this one NES centralised until it develops a lot more. it's been growing steadily and constantly all month. Maybe when the forums and site here have developed much more, THEN focus elsewhere. I think if we load too much up on Derek it'll be a lot of work.

It's really not a lot of work to setup numerous forums-- it's just a question of strategic direction. I believe if we make it too general, we'll dillute the NES appeal, which is the core audience that I'm driving to the forums now...

I'm thinking I'll add the games we've been mentioning. I like the idea of an RPG forum-- I thought the same thing. I dunno how much chatter there'd be for each genre, though... We can always add the other genres later, if the idea catches on and there seems to be a demand.

Thanks.
