Who thinks Nintendo went DOWNHILL

In Modern Systems

The reason I have ben such a major fan of the NES company was because of the NES, SNES, and N64. I think GCN went downhill though. It has gone more with a younger generation of gaming. I was looking for somthing better then Mario Sunshine, that game killed the mario series for sure, a Water Gun Pack?! Lets be serious fo once Nintendo.

I wouldn't go so far.
Sure, Mario Sunshine was a backstep compared to the great Mario 64.
But the Gamecube as a system is a very good system in my eyes.
Although there may be kiddie games, there are also many high quality games older people can enjoy.

yea but a majroity of those high quality games tend to bethe games that are for the PS2 and Xbox. I did like most games like SSBM and Mario Tennis but I was waiting for one of those majorly good titles. Sadly Nintendo has just been making sequels from good games like Star Fox and Mario, and then trying to fix them, some with not good results. ee how Kirby 64 > Kirby air ride. The Star fox game was OK, the Mario Party games are getting old now though.

I don't know the Mario Party games.
One thing is true, Nintendo is really going into sequels a bit much.
But Pikmin was a good title, exclusively for Gamecube.

And now Nintendo releases lots of very innovative titles for the DS.
For me, Nintendo is back... going uphill. (I hope very much... )

True, The GCN may have been a bit of a big drop in Nintendo's success but I hope the Revolutuon will be a rise. ames like Pimin 2 and SSBM were probably some of the ONLY good sequels though, I hope they don't go into to many sequels though.

I think (fear?) there will be sequels to Pikmin and SSBM on the new Nintendo revolution console.
I'm so eager to see the Revolution...

I don't think Nintendo have gone for a younger generation of gamers with the GC. They've always made those sort of games. The difference is that in recent years their competitors have been releasing more games with violence, sex and bad language, which in turn makes colourful games like Pikmin look kiddy.

Some people would rank games like GTA as mature. In actual fact I think it takes more genuine maturity to look past these stereotypes and find out for yourself what games you enjoy.

You quite write it down.

Nintendo always had games of that sort. And I like those very much.

I don't think anything has really changed, other than the mass sequels. As was stated, they're still releasing games for everyone. if anything they've matured more with RE4 and other such games.

who rembers the classic days when a good nintendo game was great!
gc has little compared to compation but still holds it own.

Yeah that's true. Nintendo are making too many average games now. However, an average Nintendo game is better than most of the stuff other companies churn out.

That's a true thing.
Although I don't feel they're making average games. Perhaps average for Nintendo, but when you look at them as a whole (compare them to other companies'), most of them are great.

Yes that's sort of what I was trying to say (although probably not very well ). For example, I could tear Wind Waker apart if I was to compare it to earlier Zeldas but as a game in it's own right I think it's very good. Same with Mario Sunshine. It seems that Nintendo are their own worst enemy in that they've set such a high standard for themselves.

It's good to be one's worst enemy to oneself...
Nintendo makes the best software ever and even if quality should drop behind older Nintendo productions, they still beat every other firm's software.
As for Wind Waker... I loved it even more that Ocarina of Time. I liked the cute graphics.

i believe it kinda went downhill but not at a 90 degree angle!

they have some good games and i dont think super mario sunshine sucked! i dont think the gamecube is nearly as good as 64 though so i somewhat agree

I liked the graphics too. My problem with wind waker was how much time you had to spend sailing around the ocean looking for yet another piece of treasure or yet another fish. Outside of the dungeons there wasn't any land to explore apart from a few minute islands. That's what I liked best about previous Zeldas. Definitely a good game, but it seemed to me they just slapped that giant ocean in there to make the game look a lot bigger than it actually was.

Probably that's why!
I liked the sailing part. But with the right takts you didn't need to sail so much, you could teleport everywhere.

Sailing around, find new islands or those battleships and so.
I really enjoyed it.

I didnt like Wind Waker very much! I thought it was kinda boring but didnt spend much time playing it.

So you missed one of the best games of gaming history...

I liked sailing around, getting off the boat to explore this and that little island.
And now I'm impatiently waiting for the new Zelda.

But as we see here, people's tastes are different.

The new Zelda is gonna rock. Hes like in his late 20's it looks like its gonna rock!

I was the biggest supporter of N64 that you could find, so when all the new systems came out I got a Gamecube. I was so disappointed at the games they DIDN'T have that a little over a year later I bought a PS2 and I've barely touched my Gamecube since.

I loved Wind Waker, except for that stupid part at the end where you have to pay Tingle a ton of money. That was horribly boring to me.

I'll agree the Gamecube isn't a strong as the other systems right now, but I think the fact they did so great on the GBA makes up for that. The other thing is that when Nintendo decided to use cartridges for the N64, a lot of companies like Square started making games for playstation because they used disks.

If the revolution ends up being as good as it sounds, though, Nintendo might be right back in it.

I have to say I didn't like Wind Waker. I thought the story lacked what makes it a Zelda game. (here there might some spoilers for Ocraina of Time, and Wind Waker, but nothing big at all) In OoT, when your leaving the forest for the first time, you meet Saria, and they look at each, and there is no dialoge, but you kinda know what they are thinking, like she will miss him, and see may have even loved him, and for Link, that he has grown up, and is ready to take on his fears. In WW, when hw leaves his grandma for the first time. All he is doing is crying, and crying. It makes Link look like someone he never was. (this is all MY opinion, and please don't bash it)

I'll always love Nintendo but I think they go into innovation overkill at times. Mario Sunshine wasn't a bad game, but really all I wanted to do was run and jump and play. A free roaming Mario game would be awsome if they did it like M64. Sadly I think they're ignoring their core audeince more and more as they try to appeal to more non gamers. Whenever I read something about Reggie calling the cube (or any other current Nintendo system) the hardcore gamers system I just wan't to smack him up against his big fat head. Get me a new Contra and Megaman (non rpg) game on the cube then you can start calling it the hardcore gamers system Reggie.

edit: I liked WW more than the N64 games. Especially the parts that really had the old school essence in them, like the parts where you would fight off hords of enemies that just kept coming (i.e. the cave on link's home island where the triforce map was hidden) And then having to refight several of the bosses at the end was just classic.

Probably that's why!

that's one of the reasons I liked it too
Anyway, I don't think they went downhill, look at some of the truly awful games out there on PS2 etc
