Low G-Man NES Review - Low G Man

Yes, this is a tough game...this game is good too. im not exactly sure of the story, but it takes place in the future. but i think that its a pretty generic one anyway.

In this game, you have several different weapons. you start with a gun that freezes enemies, & a spear that kills enemies. the best way to kill enemies is to freeze them, then stab them with the spear (DUH!). you will need to shoot the certain enemies a certain number of time before they are frozen. You can also have other weapons which you can pick up from certain enemies, such as boomerangs, fireballs, bombs. there are many great power-ups which you can upgrade, including how high you can jump, to lengthen your spear, & so you can shoot more bullets out of your primary freeze gun.

You can also get into certain vehicles used by some enemies after you destroy them (like in Mega Man X). some fly, some walk.

The control is great, just simply hold down the A button for as high as you want to jump (within your maximum jump) & press B to shoot. Press Down + B to stab & kill enemies with your spear (& Up + B if the enemy is above you). there are many great power-ups which you can upgrade, including how high you can jump, to lengthen your spear, & so you can shoot more bullets out of your primary freeze gun. there are also other classic power ups, such as ones that make you invincible for a sho
rt period of time, a 1-up, a purple flask that restores power, & a not so friendly red flask that decreases power.

often, the bosses & obstacles are tedious & difficult to overcome, & thus intimidating. the game can become frustrating after a while. but its also part of the challenge. & if youre too frustrated at the moment, then you can always jot down the passcode from where you left off. each passcode is 4 letters long, so theyre not difficult to memorise (YAY)!

The game consists of 5 stages. the stages are divided into at least 2 levels per stage (ie- stage 1-1, stage 1-2). every stage has a unique theme to it & unique song. There are also some hidden stges full of shortcuts & power-ups.

The graphics are great for an NES game. The enemies & background fit in well with each other & are beautifully drawn. The music is certainly entertaining, but beware of some loud & annoying themes for certain bosses that are loud & extremely repetative. the sound effects are kind of cheesy though, but they work out pretty well too.

Also, some things i want to warn you about the game...first, if you get to stage 5-2, there will be a pit at the beginning. To overcome the pit, you will need to kill one of the nearby enemies driving one of those two-legged vehicles. after getting in the two-legged vehicle after you killed the enemy, hold DOWN & press A a few times. You will then jump really high! so high you can jump onto a platform high above the pit. Im telling you this because when i first played the game , i couldnt figure out what to do for weeks, & i later ended up finding a way to "skip" across the bottom pit, a tedious & life consuming process that was not intended for you to do in the game.

Also, I must warn you that you have to go through the game 3 times before getting the best ending that it talks about when you beat it the first 2 times. Ive never beat it the 3rd time around, so i dont know what that special ending is.

well, thats it. this is first review i have ever written. i have this feeling that when i look at what ive written when i submit it, im going to think- "Holy shit! I wrote all that!?"

by the way

sound & music 7/10
control 10/10
graphics 9/10
fun 8/10
overall 9/10

challenge: very difficult!!
