In SNES

In Earthbound, I'm in the "Happy Town" where everyone has been pulled into the cult. I've been able to find a pseudo-inn and an item shop with an ATM in it, but where is the phone in the town? I've been in all the houses but can't seem to find a phone anywhere, which seems like it doesn't fit. Am I missing something?

I’m guessing you need the phone to save your game, but does that pseudo-inn guy let you save after you stay at his house? Also, I don’t remember having too much difficulty getting past the happy happy village stuff, and you could always walk back to twoson (the trip is much shorter when that guy installs the bridge).
