a growing problem....

In Off-topic

I've noticed more and more lately, that there are more and "single thread" users out there who have a small tech question, and they are there only for that.
Any ideas on how to reduce this problem?

maybe:
letting "guests" posts in the hardware forum?

I don't see it as a problem. I'm sure there are a few members who only signed up to ask a single question but then ended up sticking around.

I used to be one of those, but look at me now, 225 posts!

Yeah i think its Ok, if we can help them out, and maybe add more info to the board for more users that could have the same problem.

to me, it's worse when people register and never post. I HATE THAT! what's the point of registering?!

Its alright I guess. I came here to post a question about the Battle of Olympus on NES, but I ended up sticking around.

Man... when I read the title of this thread, I thought it was going to be a "puberty" question.

No. NEVER let guests post under any circumstances.
Doesn't anyone remember what happened to the "Dragon Warrior forum" a few months ago when users found out they could post as "guests"? Disaster!

Perhaps that word "users" should be made singular, eh ZEN?

I don't see the new users posting only a question and never posting again as a big problem. Letting guests post also leaves a forum open for more spam. Sure, those people could get banned so they can't post spam, but it's more of a deterrent if they have to join in the first place. It's good to see you have ideas for the site though, EvilNES

I see why it could be a problem, but I don't think it's a big deal. My friend had a hardware problem a while back, so I got him to sign up here and ask around. He still posts every once in a while.

I started out looking for info on Sweet Home, just wanting to know about it. Eventually I found out this was a good place for anything and everything having to do with NES and the like, so I stuck around.

It's not an extreme problem, it happens in all forums, we should make a poll to make a "Guest Book" forum where people who don't feel like going through the whole registration process can make a simple post. I think Derek might approve, I know how pissed he gets when he sees a lot of members on his forum list with 0-1 posts. Want me to make a poll topic?

Besdies thats how I got the introduction thread to be voted up as a Sticky

ahahahahahah, me too!

Anyway, yeah I don't see a problem with it as long as they're not being disrespectful of anybody, and have an honest question.

I also think it's no big deal if users post a question and then don't come anymore. At least they posted once. Better than registering without posting.
And it's really no good idea to let guests post. Unless you want a spammed forum.
