PlayStation 3 could feature downloadable PSone, PS2 games
Found it today on .
If that will happen it's a blatant ripoff of Nintendo's virtual console, but hey, Nintendo is used to competitors stealing their ideas.
Of course it's not a far fetched idea to offer downloads, but you have never heard about that from Sony. (At least I haven't) Now, after Nintendo announced it, Sony seems to add that to their console, too. That's why I call it a rip off of Nintendo's plans.
On the other hand, this would make a PS3 really more attractive. There are some games on PS1 and PS2 that are really hard to find or quite pricy. Download em for cheap without having to serach used game shops would be nice sometimes.
I just hope they don't put in their famous root kits in the downloadable games.
And I hope ALL games will be playable on PS3. Not a half-boiled solution like on the 360, where you even can't use your old saves.
Why... what are you talking about, manuel? Microsoft says that backwards compatibility is overrated. Microsoft says that single player games are an aberration. Don't you them?
I them. What MS says can't be wrong.
I don't think backwards compatibility is overrated, though. It's not rated that highly anyways.
If I had a PS2 I'd play PS1 games on it.
And when I get the Revolution I will definitely play my Cube games on that, too, and perhaps even download an old game, just to test the virtual console thing.
NEWS FLASH: the PS3 uses a completely different hardware architecture than the PS1 and PS2, if Sony does any backward compativility, it'll be no better than the 360, as it'll be 100% emulation. that's right anti-MS fanboys, Sony will be in EXACTLY the same position!
No, I don't think they'll offer downloadable PS2 games, as many of them are several GIGABYTES each (in the case of GTA:SA, around 8...) You going to wait for those downloads? Since the idea for this thread came from Joystiq, it should be noted that they toyed with the idea of offering downloadable PS1 games for the PS2, didn't happen... many of those games are large as well, 4 CDs at 600+ MB each... not fun.
Revolution will succeed fantastically here, as the largest N64 games are only 64MB, and there are no downloadable GameCube games, those require the actual disc.
I anti Microsoftorial advocate, thank you very much.
