Grand Theftendo

In Games

a lot of people likely know about this already, but one person is making a port of Grand Theft Auto III for the NES.

I'd LOVE to get that on a cart if it were at all possible. Currently he's using the MMC5 mapper, which was only used in Kirby's Adventure, and Castlevania III. If he sticks with that mapper it'll be possible to get it on a cart somehow, but he has made mention of writing a custom mapper, which could complicate the process.

does anyone know if it would be at all possible to put it on a cart when it's complete?

What a coincidence! I saw something about that on planetnintendo.com earlier in the homebrew section, but didn't look it up. My first thought was that it was probably a GTA port, but didn't check. Now I know!

As far as your question goes, I'm not sure how you would go about putting a game onto a cart. You'd probably have to know alot about the paths that each circuit goes to (or something?) I have absolutely no clue.... Great link though!

haha wow im gonna have to pick that thing up

Actually it still uses the MMC5 mapper for now, so Kirby, or Castlevania III are possible donors. although if he does go through with the plan to write a custom one, then it's severely limited.

I'm almost positive it will be good. The guy has been working on it for a while, and it seems he knows what makes a game better for the people. I like the 3/4 top-down view that he uses for it, instead of just top-down. It reallly does look alot better that way....

wow that sounds interesting a 3/4 down lol thats gonna be kinda hard though.... so does he have anything on release dates or anything yet?

yeah for now, but in order to make the game bigger he said he has to go custom. so odds are he will be switching over to custom soon

How does this work? Do I have to install something new (that mapper)?

dude sorry lol but i did read that... lol i dont no too much about emulation so u said he will release the mapper i dont no exactly what youy mean sorry....

If you don't know, ask, a suitable response would have been "I'm not sure what a mapper is, would someone mind explaining?"

Don't post garbage if you know nothing about the subject. also, google is your friend.

and FINALLY, please, PLEASE read your posts through to avoid things like "gona" and "youy"

you've been asked to use complete words on several occasions, please follow that adVice, it's getting to the point now that I'm going to start deleting your posts. two keystrokes aren't that much more effort to put it, and they make it sound like you have at least a grade 2 education.

for example, "no" VS. "know"

When that guy brings out this game I hope the controls will be good. I didn't play many racing games on the NES, and most of those few were really bad (e.g. Road Fighter).

I assume that control wise it will be similar to the original GTA, which worked well. If you want a good NES racing game try Micro Machines if you haven't already. I'd rank it in my top 5 NES Games .

I'll second that, Micro Machines is great. especially with two people. it's one of the few top down racing games that controls properly. and you have to love the selection of vehicles.

Uggh please, not the "original game's controls"! That was the worst thing about GTA. The cars weren't so bad but when you run around on foot, the guy is controlled like the car!
This leads to situations where I try to run from a cop (or zig zag from an alligator) only to turn myself around and start running toward him because I couldn't figure out which direction I needed to turn.
The "on foot" controls just need to be like any other game (U,D,L,R) whereas the cars could have steering. It could be just like the controls on 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit?'.

And 'Micro Machines' is to freekin' hard to steer (driving on sand should not feel like driving on ice).

You're mean.

But thats exactly what I love about it. Over taking someone by skiding round a corner (and hopefully knocking them off the track in the process) feels great. I guess it just takes a lot of practice to master the controls, but that adds to its value.

Thanks for the recommendation. I'll surely try out Micro Machines.

WOW! This is cool! Are there any other projects for the NES like this being made or have been made?

I'm sure there are other homebrew projects, but I'm not sure if they're nearly that cool.

If you happen to come across any homebrew projects make a subject homebrew projects please. I would like to see them ill be on the search as well.

This looks pretty interesting. I hope it comes out soon if it has not already come out

the date right now thats being aimed for is later 2005 its not out now.
