Gas Prices

In Off-topic

I heard by the end of the year gas prices are gonna be $5 a gallon that's insane i think i might have to start looking for a bike like OGTL's to go to work.

I've been playing my violin for a while now... we are teh screwed.

that's why we need to start drilling in Alaska, and the Gulf....

Yeah, it definitely sucks. Gas prices here (Missouri) in my area are already over $2.60 a gallon, and rising like Oprah's cholesterol. Yikes.

I think that they are already at $5 in some places.. Here, it is $2.70 and I bet by mid-summer it reaches $3.50-$4.

What makes you think that'll really help? Every time prices rise, when it goes down again, the oil companies have it stop higher than before.

They follow the rules of supply and demand, but only by so much.

generally if there's more supply than demand, prices will be extremely low. extremely low gas prices = more money in my pocket/bank/wallet

That's the thing. There will never be more oil than is demanded, therefore the price won't go down as much. Besides, OPEC would still be a huge factor in prices, despite American drilling.

i guess you're right, but still, if we drill in Alaska and the Gulf, prices will drop. they won't be 99 cents a gallon like they were 4 years ago, but $1.50 is better than $3

Too bad alternative energy blows.

And it certainly doesn't help when its cause is being supported by douches like Leonardo DeCaprio. "I own three Priuses. Why don't you own a Prius? You don't love the earth."

I don't even remember the gas being 99 cents it seems like a really really long time ago.

Last year BP reported a 38% increase in profits. Exxon: 32%.

The oil companies are bastards. They make billions of profits each year (they could at least cut the little people a bit of a break).

Too bad I don't have any money squirreled away, we have a fuel bank (two of them) in town, were you can lock in your gas price with a deposit.
Some smart bastard put down a couple grand a couple years ago when gas was $1.35. It'll probably take him a couple more years to spend that couple thousand.

All that money that the US spent in the middle east (at least I think) should entitle us to some of their oil. After all freedom isn't free!

Leonard can put a sock in it. Not everyone can afford a fancy, brand new car. If he's so concerned he should buy everyone one.

Uhhh, Why exactly do you think the whole 'liberation' was started?

Bushy just wanted to show off to his daddy, "Look what I can do". Saddam messed with his daddy so he thought it was time for payback.

If his intention was to get oil, he has failed miserably.

Looks like its bike riding time.

it hasn't been that long. i've only been driving a little over a year and a half, and i remember being pissed off because gas went up right before i got my liscense. so about 2 years ago it was 99 cents a gallon.

I'm curious as to what everyone thinks is the reason our gas is so damned expensive.

Do you think that the trend of owning SUV's and trucks are what did us in? (I remember when I was young I didn't see as many large cars as I do now)But then again I'm sure the gas MPG is much better in cars now then back 20 years ago (so wouldn't that in a way cancel out the whole us using more gas?)

Do you think it's because certain countries (such as China) are beginning to become more technologically advanced and developing into a (this is not to sound insulting) real nation therefore their need for gas/oil has increased?

Do you think it's because the middle east are being jerks and over charging us and purposely under producing barrels?

Or maybe the oil companys are gouging us.

What do you think?

That's because all countries use too much. All Americans have big cars that need lots and lots of gas. The Chinese are buying like wild now, too, the car market is skyrocketing there. They're not content with bicycles any more.
In Germany we pay up to 1.40 Euro per litre, that would be about 6.40$ per gallon in the US. Now tell me gas in your country is expensive.

Here in Germany it's the taxes what make gas expensive.

It's times like these that make me glad I drive a small car.

Here is a good article on the reasons behind the rises. It will always come down to supply and demand at the end of the day.

The prices here are as high as Germany (if not higher), thanks also to our tax hungry government.

God almighty, I couldn't agree more. I've been saying the same exact thing for a long time. The whole Middle East "situation" is just "Dubya" trying to finish what his Dad started. It's sickening that we lost so many men and women who went to "defend our country" when our country was never in turmoil or danger. The only danger to our country was Al-Quaida,which was in AFGHANISTAN, not IRAQ. Funny how we found Saddam Hussein, but nobody has seen Osama Bin Laden. Hmm...wonder why. Now, for those of you who will say that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction, I say two things to you....

1) No W.O.M.D. were found. At all. Period. You can easily obtain a copy of the report saying just that.

2) If any weapons HAD been found, there's no way they would have been strong enough to reach U.S. soil. Think about that.....

Oh, and thanks so much to everyone who elected Bush to a second term...No, really...
