Our new leader is now in office.

In Off-topic

Today at 11:00am Steven Harper went into office today as our new PM. But Steven doesn't have the support in some places in Canada(I.E Ontario, B.C, and Quebec.) How will he win there support? Here are some stuff that Harper will bring to Canada:

* Clean up government by passing the Federal Accountability Act;
* Provide real tax relief to working families by cutting the GST;
* Make our streets and communities safer by cracking down on crime;
* Help parents with the cost of raising their children; and
* Work with the provinces to establish a Patient Wait Times Guarantee.

But is Harper a threat to Women and Gay rights? He talked about getting rid of abortin. And banning Gay marriage. But in order to do either he needs support. But where will he lead are Country? Post your Views of our new PM.

I agree with both of those choices. Abortion is basically murder.

He promised a "Squeeky clean government", plans to lower taxes, and get rid of that gun registry bullshit. It is time for a change, the liberals can go burn in hell.

I want them to ban abortin. But who needs a paper telling them they are Married? The Liberals had good ideas. But.....where did they go? I wish Jack Layton got in but that would never happen...

I will admit that the gun registry is a waste of money.

But health care and the schools are not. So I hope Harper doesn't do what everyone expects him to.

And abortion, well. I don't know that giving birth to an unwanted child is a good thing, but there's always adoption, I guess.

It seems like politicians always spout the same old crap over and over. They say "I'm going to do all these good things to help the country" but do they ever really deliver?

As for abortion, that can be a slipperly slope. Late term abortions, those are horrible and don't understand why those are even legal at all. All other abortions, you have to look at the individual situations. Does anyone really want hard core drug addicts (meth, coke, herion) having those children? Those poor children are born addicted and if the shock alone of it doesn't kill them, all the medical problems they will encounter in life probably will.
Or people that are from abusive homes. Not only that is a horrible situation to bring a child into; but also consider the damage to the fetus and the mother from any potential beatings.
Or some women, it's just dangerous to their health to carry a child. They have pre-existing medical problems that could kill them both.

It's so easy for a man to say "oh, it's murder" or "adoption is an option". Because sometimes it's just not.

OK, and how are we supposed to look at that situation on an idividual basis?

I think pleading the case would go something like this: "uhhh, yeah, we need to get an abortion because I sure do love to beat my wife!"

"oh, we sure wouldn't want to bring a child into that situation! APPROVED!"

Whoa whoa whoa there man. Stop for a second and take a breath. You want to ban abortion while hoping Jack Layton gets in? The NDP is officially pro-abortion.

Also, can we not argue abortion here? I mean, it's great to have your own views and all, but do we really need to discuss this on a NES forum, even if it's in the Off-topic area? Anything that can be said about the issue is up in the air. If people who devote their lives to this issue can't resolve it, we sure as hell won't get any closer on the internet. It will just serve to turn this thread into a flame war.

Good point. But I doubt it would become a flame war. Most of the users here have level heads. After all, we managed to muddle through the capital punishment debate without any fatal woundings.

You're right, it's possible. I don't claim to know enough about such topics to properly debate them, and it usually just pains me to hear others make an attempt when they clearly aren't up to speed. Here's hoping those wishing to debate do so in good fashion.

. but aren't liberals the ones that a change?

I think there all about Change. But I just want to see what Harper will do. Besides how bad could he be? its been 12 years of Liberals. Maybe the consertives have cleaned up there act.

. but aren't liberals the ones that
You don't understand.
The liberals have been ruling here for about 12 years.
We need a new governement and new ideas, rather than these fuckers stealing our money so they can pay for their little vacations and sports cars.

Remember what the Conseritves did 12 years ago?

I agree we needed a change. I think the Liberals were basically taking it for granted that they would get into the office again. I am not Conservative myself, but shaking things up has the potential to do some good.

Regardless, the Conservatives are going to lie, cheat and steal, just as the Liberals did. And they won't abolish abortion or gay marriage. Things aren't going to change that much. Most of us will never tell the difference.

oh.... i misunderstood what you said. i thought you meant the liberals don't want a change in how things are run. but liberals want change while conservatives want it to stay the same. i didn't realize you didn't want them to run the shit anymore.

sorry if that's confusing.
