Can we make a "Guest Book" forum?

In Off-topic

Last time, I polled to see if we could get the votes for an introduction forum, EvilNES brought up a great point ( ) that I hope the Mods can agree on, but once again, it's the Mod's decision along with the popular vote if it can be done...

Basically, I want to know if we can make a Guest Book forum. On the outside description, it could say "Have a quick question or have a comment for the site? Post here if you don't feel the need to want to go through the whole registration process!" or somthing more summarized

I figured this could help, I remember Derek cleaning out some of the members that had like 0-2 posts to keep the forum more organized. This could help reduce all that time for him.

Basically, just vote if you agree on the Guest book forum, also if you want to go against it, please make a good arguement for more open minded suggestions or somthing!

Also, ask if you are having trouble understanding this ...

I think its fine that users Register and only post a couple times.
Derek never deleted users with One, or more in context posts. Only the bots and spammers.

But i see where your coming from. if it would be created, then i would be able to judge it better.

If this happens, users will use the guest forum, and never come back.
They could have been long time users.

and a "Guest" forum leaves it wide open for advertising, and that would be a burden on the mods, cleaning it up twice a day.
Maybe.
Nah.

Yea, I thought about that as a major weak spot also

Much too major...

even with registration, and the new visual confirmation, we still have spam users registering. They don't post, but we don't need the memberlist full of crap.

leaving it open for ANYONE to post would multiply the hassle by about ten million.

Being able to post as a guest is fine if the forums are small. It may even attarct more members if they have a chance to see what it's all about. But once a forum gets to a certain size, it becomes a problem, because people will abuse it if they have the chance. En masse.

Personally, I like forums when they're open and crazy and even, to an extent, unmoderated. But it does cause a lot of problems, especially if one wants to keeps things 'clean', so to speak.

Mm, I agree with NES-Luke. Too big, and not really necessary. Good idea, though.

No good idea.
It's probably good to have the "hassle" of registering. I people really want to post they should register.
I think a guestbook would have more spam entries than serious ones. I see that in a guestbook I had on an old site. I didn't update the page for years and it was deleted, but I still get posts in the guestbook about how good my page is and "I'd be glad if you also visit my site".
Places where you don't have to register attract spammers. And we don't want that, do we?
