How long have you been active on the internet? I'd make a poll, but you know. Peanut arms!

For some reason, I find stuff like this interesting. I could ask more disquieting questions about why you're using the Internet from both a societal and personal standpoint. However, that would likely create a deep philosophical debate, or maybe it would make you consider yourself as a mere unit in the variable as it affects the set of life. Or perhaps force you to impossibly assess your character within society with an equitable eye. I’m way too sarcastic for that, more interesting though it may be.

Myself, I’m around the 13-year mark. I gauge this by the memory of getting doom when it first came out. What a worthwhile download.

Take "active on the internet" as you want to. Maybe monthly connectivity is active to you.

EDIT: wait, wait, whoa whoa hold on! Is it 'affects' or 'effects' in that sense?

I've been ON the internet since '97, so about 9 years, but I was out of it for the last two years. I only had access at school and a public access centre.

I think I'm just about to hit my 10th anniversary. It was late 1995 when we got a brand spanking new "internet ready" pentium PC with Windows 95. I was the first kid in my neighbourhood to have access to the internet, boy did I feel cool. Not that I knew how to use it though. There was no internet at school and no one to teach us how to use it so my sister and I just sort of messed about until we figured it out. I think the UK was a couple of years behind North America on the whole internet revolution.

i used the internet when i was like 8, which was in 1998, i hadn't used it that much back then though. i really started using it when i was 12. i am 15 now.

i guess it was about 4-5 years ago. i had an iMac, what a piece that thing was.

We got our computer in i think 1997. so about 8 years.

I started using the internet in 1999 when i was about 17

Ah, time based billing. The bane of my existance!

Also, sweet. I got it right. I guess school good for something after all.

probably around 1994 or 1995 when I was 9 or 10 years old. Back then it was dial up and all you had were basicly AOL and Prodigy and both costs money. Internet is so much better today.

I think it was about 1998, when my parents got a "proper" P.C
I remember the first website I looked at the Leeds United website

1996. I was 11. so that's 9 or so years. Boy, time sure files eh?

I started going on the web, back in 1995 I was 5 at the time (Woot ten years on the web!!!).

This is out of curiosity (not out of meanness) but how does one go on the internet at the age of 5? Most five year olds can't read and can hardly colour within the lines. And wasn't the internet still pay by the hour back then (I don't know many parents that would let a child waste money like that)?
Just curious.

I was on the internet from about 1996 I think, maybe a little earlier in school, don't remember too well.

I'm 22. I have had the internet since I was 14 (). I had AOL 2.5 running on a 386 with windows 3.1. It was HORRIBLY slow. I couldn't have more than 2 IM windows open. If someone sent me messages quickly, it would freeze for about 5 minutes till I received the next message.

I remember thinking 4 gigs was alot of memory.

I actually looked up interesting junk on the net back in the day. Now it's just for downloading music, pr0n, movies, and video game emulators & NES ROMs.

Well I started going online around 98 but only for like two hours a month because of AOL. It was that way until about 02 when I got AOL unlimited for a bull crap 25$ a month. This year I have been using the T3 computers in my high school to download stuff onto my 512MB flashdrive and take home and copy to my PC. What is a real shame though is that the school PC's are configured to not allow ports open for Limewire, Imesh, Bittorrent, etc. I have been trying to get around this but had no luck.

sine '97 I guess

figure out the admin password and you'll be set. last year at my school the adminstrators password was... get ready... "administrator"

oh man, when i was a sophomore, my drafting teacher had to get heart surgery. he was gone for about 2 months. some kids in the class put Quake on the server. those were some good time. EVERYONE in the class played Quake. it was like the biggest LAN party ever. we had a different sub almost everyday, they didn't care that we played as long as we were finished with our project. needless to say 90% of the class lied about it

Since 1996, I was nearing 9, and my mom's friend who was addicted to chatting on AOL (now Everquest), turned my mom to it with a beta version of AOL 3.0. My mom stayed on it all day, and all night. After about 3 months of that, she got us each screen names. (my first screen name was LizardCarl) at about 1998, I actually got to using the internet, because she finally trned my settings from "Kids only" to "young teen".
I've also been doing emulation since the dawn of time.
I would love to do some internet stories around the digital campfire, but i'll save those for later. (if you eat your dinner.)

Since 96 or 97 at the library and friends houses and in home since 99
