Books?

Who are your favorite authors or books?

You see my pile of books is going to get much smaller (especially when I get to and finish Dreamcatcher) and I need some ideas!

Honestly, I don't read too much. I do however, have a favorite series of books...

It's called the Elric Saga. It was originally a six-book release, though there have been others written around gaps in the story. It's by an author named Michael Moorcock (ha! What a pen name!), and the series is a fantasy type deal.

The first book in the series is called , and is a really fun read. The books aren't too thick, either... I've never had the patience for big books. If you're into swords and sorcery, it's really good.

I really like sci-fi and satire. The Mouse that Roared, 1984, Animal Farm, Three Cheers for Me, and Catch-22 being among my favourite satires.

I also read some fantasy, but most of it is garbage so I only read it when something is recommended to me.

I'm currently re-reading The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy (the first 4 parts, that is). I definitely recommend that to everyone, if you haven't already read it.

Yeah, I went and saw it twice. I enjoyed it quite thoroughly.

I like sci-fi and fantasy. I'm currently reading A Wizard of EarthSea.

Love the Hitchhikers Guide, and I'm a huge Lovecraft fan (but I am part of the bizarre wicca/goth Lovecraft subculture, thank you very much), and I'm a mild fan of Steinbeck.

Not really into the fantasy genre. Way too much of it is sheer crap...

Liked the original Conan stories, though. BTW, do you know the Conan creator was a pen pal of Lovecraft?

Indeed you did. Yeah, don't see any Lovecraftian movies. They have little to do with the actual stories. The real stories are very good, though wordy.

I enjoy reading.
I like older (i.e "classic") novels, but also any kind of genre.
My favourite books include-
A Clockwork Orange
The Master and Margarita
1984 - George Orwell is probably my favourite author.

And the American Splendor and Daniel Clowes comic books - but they're not "real" books

Ha! Cool! My father gave me a twelve volume series of Conan books by Robert E. Howard! Starting with

I love reading Edgar Allen Poe....drunken insanity produces great horror stories apparently.

Ah, yes, Edgar Allen Poe, good stuff. Glad to see people still read....

Yeah, good stuff. I remember reading The Masque of the Red Death when I was in High School.

I dont know wether or not to be ashamed but ive read all 5 Harry Potter books . But I started in 5th grade and that was years ago. Im nealry a junior now in high school. Heh i finished the 4th book in 2 days and then 5th in a week. I was pretty upsessed.

You guys like Poe, huh? Have you read Julio Cortazar's 'House Taken Over'? That story was awesome. Google it sometime.

The last book i remember reading is "The Mouse and the Motorcycle" and that was like 15 years ago.

I like "The Raven" from Poe. That's a great piece of poetry.

At the time I only read stuff for university.

I quite like the books of a German author, Wolfgang Hohlbein. He writes fantasy novels. Anybody knows him?

Then I like Marion Zimmer Bradley.

Sometimes I challenge Japanese novels (in Japanese of course) by Natsume Soseki, Akutagawa Ryunosuke or Yoshimoto Banana.

And at the time I'm translating some chapters from a Japanese book of scary stories by Inagawa Junji for a translation project. The book will probably be released in fall this year.

Cool. What's the title?

The tile from the book I'm translating (4 or 5 chapters from it) is "Really Scary Stories".

The book we'll publish in our project will also contain other translations of books by Abe Kobo, Edogawa Ranpo and more.
But unfortunately for you all: It will be in German.

whew, it's a good thing I speak fluent Germanese!

I read books and My faves are the jurassic Parks, and the resdident eVil books.(i am not sure if I have already posted this)

I've only read The Lost World, but it was awesome. I didn't know the thing about T-rexes and movement was bogus! Friggin' Hollywood!

In keeping with my Star Wars geek-dom, there has been a book that was eluding me. It's called . It's supposed to take place between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi (and I think maybe a little during ESB), and I've heard it's really good. Never could find it for awhile.... tonight... I found it! Yeah!

I'll be starting it this weekend probably, and I'm excited! Woohoo!
