Is it possible to wear out the nes?

In Hardware

Hi everyone. I've heard that it's possible to wear out the nes, but I really don't know myself. Please send your opinion.

The pins certainly get worn out. Most original NES consoles out there are 'worn out'. You can bend the pins back into shape, blow in the unit and the carts, etc., trying to get it to work(and often times it does, eventually), but it most certainly is "worn out". You can get a replacement 72-pin adapter online for fairly cheap, which they say makes your NES play like new. Personally, I haven't tried one yet.

I've bent the pins on mine and most games work with very little struggle. I never blow in them.

Once again, I find myself talking about the top-loader. I still think this is the way to go with any NES player. I've never heard of those things malfunctioning, let alone, wearing out. Darn it, I knew I forgot to ask for something for Christmas!!!

I really need to get one, as well. Someone here mentioned the dogbone controller was too small and hard to use, and I seem to recall using it once in a store somewhere, and I agreed-- I'm pretty sure I can use the classic controllers with it, though-- the plug looks alike...

I'd like a top loader, but I currently use the composite output on my NES. So I'l likely have to attempt to mod the top loader as my current television doesn't have RF in.

No worries, they are compatible. Those dog-bone controllers ARE too small!

That really sux, too. I usually plug my consoles into my front composite connectors, and I don't want to put an RF modulator around back, though I guess I COULD... There's probably RF->composite adapters, too...

It'd definately be worth it! No worries on getting games to work, and less time finaggilling with it (if that's how you spell it, is it even really a word?).

after cleaning and repairing mine I have very little finaggilling (nice one Roth ) to do with mine. I played NES at a friend's place yesterday and mine works MUCH better than an unrepaired one.

Well my first opinion is that I'm SICK of all these stupid STOOPID chain e-mails that ask you to forward it to like 10,000,000 people or else you'll die a slow painful death and your first-born child will be eaten by lizards. I'm tired of that CRAP! URRRGggh!

Oh wait... you want my opinion on the NES wearing out. Oh OK.
The only thing I'm almost certain that wears out is the original toaster oven NES' connector pins. They were copper and could bend and corrode easily. The replacement pins are more reliable.

I'm not sure about the games themselves, but I've worn out a few controllers.

oh that was good for a laugh.

Yes, I've worn out controllers, but my NES still seems to work quite well. The controllers can be fixed most times with a simple screwdriver, q-tip, and alcohol, as with most things video game related.

Yes, if all possible I try to make sure I always clean my NES peripherals with "alcohol"... that is, of course, if it doesn't get drank first.

I have a front loader with a brand new 72-pin. If you keep your games clean, you should have no problem. Don't let your friends blow in the cartridges, keep dust sleeves on all your cartridges, and you should be fine.

I just noticed...The guest who started this topic, was me...Weird, so long ago. This was right before I registered.

I particulary remembered the joke ZEN pulled off.

I wore out the springs on the front loading NES (probably due to being a kid and jamming it up and down).

But I have a top loading one now. (well, since they originally came out)
