GameAxe

In Hardware

has anyone used this or any other portable NES/FC clones? with the adaptor installed it looks like the cart could wobble and cause the game to mess up. I've been looking at this: for a few weeks now, and I think it would be interesting. but again, the problem of adapter+cart= 30 foot cart.

does anyone know of any handheld NES clone that actually plays NES carts without an adaptor?

I just have a GBA flash cartridge and I use PocketNES. That works for me. I guess GameAxe isn't supposed to be bad, but I'm not too impressed with any of the portable NESes I've seen.

my point is as close as it may be, emulation is not NES. I want to play on real hardware.

Ha, well the real hardware is just not portable. No portable NES solutions I've seen are very "portable" or well-designed. That's not to say I wouldn't like a GameAxe. I think that's probably your best bet.

there have been several portable NESes made by individuals... such as these:

LAMENESS ALERT!

and there are several actual production models, and a few other home made ones that I've seen but can't find links to.

Also, they'd be awesome projects to tackle.

Yeah, I'm familiar with the portable NES scene, but like I said, none of those are something I'd like to lug around. Haha.

I can play all the "real" NES I want when I'm at home. When I'm on the go, my DS or SP and PocketNES will just have to do.

I strongly suggest investing in a Gamepark, great little open-source handheld that emulates NES, SNES, Game Boy, Genesis, TG16, etc... Best investment I've ever made.

Wow! Does it run really well? That looks pretty d*mn cool! I'd like to try that out.. what kind of price tag does it tote with it?

Gamepark... was that a Korean one?

yes, I've been wanting a GamePark for a long time, although the cost is a bit much for me. Maybe some day...

...

Oh, right, the GP32.

Amen, It feels SO much more comfortable holding th controller are actually seing in via screen. I was playing Super Metroid on my freinds eulator comp. I decided to play on my SNES and it seemed more appropriate. Thats why I am trying to get a new NES or somthing, the comp NES is just not the same.

Personally I think it's the controls, I like holding somthing in my hands rather then having my hands just over certain keys so I can get ready to use them (at one point I tryed holding my comp like a controller to feel more comfortable)

I hate the controls with the keyboard, too. Just crappy.

But with a good gamepad, it's nearly the same experience as an a real NES... only nearly. Nothing can replace the original.

...

I really can't recommend enough investing in a gamepad or controller of some kind. You can get a basic one (which is all you need for NES) very cheap and it's so much better than using the keyboard.

However I do agree that nothing beats the real thing. For me that's because sitting in front of a monitor will never beat a comfy chair in front of a TV. And of course there's the pleasure of actually owning the game.

Nothing beats the real experience of a game. And actually owning the thing is great.
Although many people don't seem to appreciate that so much. Especially many PS and PS2 owners seem to be content with CD-Rs and DVD-Rs...

I know it's entirely mental, but I can't play on an emulator. I have NESterDC with several hundred NES ROMs on the disc, and I rarely use it, and when I do it's not for more than a few minutes. I need my NES

I see that you're a die hard fan.
That's a good thing.

I was wondering, with portables such as the NESp, how do you plug the games in? By that I mean, do those moded portables allow you to just insert the game as is or is there something special that must be done to the cart (i.e. remove the case) for it to fit into the portable?

I know the NESp doesn't require anything special it all depends on how you build the case for them.

OK. Thankyou for the intel. I figured as much, but I wanted to be sure.

I know what you mean about needing the feel of the real system to play it I plan to build an SNESp if I can get my hands on a second one, and plan to use the actual controler (modified of course) so that I can get the realistic feel to it.
