Topps Nintendo GamePack Cards

In Collecting

I had a find of something that I TOTALLY forgot about as a kid. At one point, Topps had made cards of Nintendo games, and they were scratch cards! You could scratch off certain parts, and see if you beat that card. There was no winning of anything, like the Lottery, but it was just for fun. I used to buy them all the time, and now I found some once again! I scanned some for you guys to check out...

This is what the package looks like. There is also one with Princess from Mario on it, but I only scanned this one....

Here is a sample of what the front of the cards look like...

Here is what the back of the scratch cards might look like...

Each package also came with two sticker cards...

...and here's what the back of those would look like. They included tips for games. Some are helpful, but most aren't

Pretty cool stuff, huh? I used to love these, and can't believe I forgot about them!

If they had trading Cards for Old School NES, I would probably buy them, not battling ones but just collecting rares and super rares and stuff

Oh, those are so cool!

But after you scratched all the fields off, could you use them a second time or did you have to buy new ones?

Unfortunately, you have to get more after you scratch them off... That's alright though, because you would usually be trying to get the whole collection. So there were always doubles...

Of course you have to buy more... that's capitalism.

But very cool indeed.

They didn't sell anything like that here.
Only thing they are selling like stupid are Pokemon cards and stuff.

Of course you have to buy more... that's capitalism.

Thats what all trading card games are, I stopped playing "Magic: The Gathering." I m done with fads like that.

Thank god I never got into trading cards of any kind.
They ruin you while you're still a kid.

I have over 1300 Magic cards that I collected pretty much over a summer. Haven't done much with them in a bunch of years though...

Yea, but the sad thing is, I sucked against my freinds, probably because one had expreience and the other had an older borther that gave him like 1,000 cards. Then 4 monthst later, I have a killer discarding dark deck and an over POWering mana drawing green deck, I also had an awsome flight direct damage deck for blue and a good rushing deck for red.

It's kind of ironic that they stopped playing when I started kicking their a$$e$

Well, I pretty much stopped when the only shop in town closed down. so I had no place to get cards... I didn't have a lot of people to play against, but when I did, I had an owning black healing deck. yes, BLACK healing deck. I'd often walk away from a game with 25+ life

One of my freinds had a White Def and Heal deck that pissed me off. He had these 5 special protection ring cards, i don't remember what they did, i think it rpevented a certain color to attack you. Then he had all these plus def cards. He had monsters that had the bility to give all his monsters like +4 on def and stuff. He had a lot of high def and healing. Luckily i could beat him w/ my discard deck . . . sometimes.

My fav cards were

hage the untouchable? somthing like that (if it attacked my opponent directly, I auto matically would win, that was it's effect, I would combine it with dragon shadow since that gives it fear, fear makes it so I can't be blocked my any monster but dark)

I had a card called legion somthing, when it killed a card, I would get it on my side of the feild

I have 3 boxes of the cards you are talking about. By boxes I mean the box that they were kept in if you bought them in bulk (which I did) Each box contains like 50 or so packs (each pack has like 5 cards or something like that) So needless to say I have a lot of them. None of them have been used or scratched off. And at least one box of them are still sealed. I found them on ebay for about 15 dollars a box. A pretty good find if you ask me

You till got them? Do you still play?

Cool! The place where I got them still has some, including the box! It's obviously not sealed, but I'm going to try to get it from him...

Yeah, you really did make out on the E-Bay deal! Sweetness!

ROTH, I see scratches on them but where are the results as far as battling goes?

Well, on the back of the cards, you can see different symbols. You have to scratch off... let's say, three arrows in order to win....

Some of them that are seperated (left then right), have you scratch the left side first. If you get a certain symbol before scratching off the others, you advance to the right side of the card. From there you have to get whatever the back of the card states in order to win. It's pretty neat!

Also, the guy at the store told me he can get them by box no problem, so I put in an order for a box.... I can't wait!

That's cool.

How much does he want for a whole box?

He can still get hold of new boxes? I would have thought they would have been out of production for at least 10 years!

Sometimes people lay stuff on stuck because they can't sell them.

Especially in Japan it is so. I looked over yahoo auctions and there are many people who sell factory sealed hardware like 3d goggles or NES robots and stuff.

$14 dollars per box. Sounds like a sweet deal to me! I may even get more.

Well, they are out of production, but there is some warehouse that has a deal with some people... blah blah... The guy explained to me what he knew, and basically it boils down to it was all the stuff that was leftover. He said they had other old school cards, too. I think I may ask him if he can get original Garbage Pail Kids...

Well, I had ordered more of these cards, and they came in today! Pretty sweet! A whole box. I'll have to crack them open later tonight, because unfortunately I don't have the time to right now.

The guy at the store is real cool, too. He wasn't even open today, and let me come by to pick them up! He stays in there on the days he's not open to sort through all his stuff and get it organized. He just recently relocated to the building he's in.

ALSO, he just recieved an NES and a SNES! He still has to Hook them up and test them, though. He said he'd sell them to me if he had a spare of each. He likes to have one of each system to try out games that come in to make sure that they work. Anyway, he definately has a spare SNES, so that's mine for sure. He can't remember if he has a spare NES right now, so he has to go through his stuff. $25 a piece is all he wants! I'm hyped!

Dang it! I miss everything good! I wish I lived in the 1980s! Then I bet my collection of NES Games would still be in very good condition! Today I'm going to go to EB games to get more games for my NES.

really, the 80s didn't have much the NES came out in 85/86, but prior to that there were the Atari consoles, and their competition, which in my opinion is nothing special. The graphics were too limited to make the gameplay very pleasant.

but even considering the NES was launched then, most of the good games didn't surface until 88 or later.

I would say the best period of time would have to be from '85 to '98 (the 8 - 16 bit era) myself being born in '85 , I was too young to really appreciate the NES in it's early days, and I believe one of the only, if not THE only game I had was SMB/DH.

so ideally, I would have wanted to be born in about 1980.

Yeah, I was born in 1979... PERFECT
The year of the Drag... ehem... sheep.

I still remember the first time NES commercials were on TV.

1981 for me. 80's child all the way.

Still, I wish I was around during the 80's to experience these games even more.
