NES Disc System?

In Collecting

What is this? I've never seen anything like this before.

I do belive that is the Famicom Disk System (FDS). It was an add on to the Japanese Famicom (their version of the NES) that allowed games to be downloaded or bought in disk form. They did have .wav sounds on them, and were utilized by games such as Metroid.

oh, okay. thats cool. I didnt know. I just ran across it and was confused 'cus I've never seen anything like it before.

It looks pretty cool

The big problem with them is that the belt inside the drive wears out quickly and crumbles away...

if it's nothing too non-standard, you could replace it with a rubber band I've seen that done before.

True. A rubber band should be ok basically...
I'll have to open my Twin Famicom one time and look at the mess.

Just an interesting note on the disk system, I was just at NESPlayer and I found out that about half of the games for it were pirates and about half the pirates were pornographic. It fleurs me to think that people use to enjoy 8-bit porn...

Yes, there were "pornographic" games, if you consider such so.
There was also a lot of porn on th C64 and stuff.
I don't know what's so interesting about that, but now, as a collector, I'd like to find such.

Can you get a FDS to work with an NES? I'd love to make use of my mystery port on the bottom of mine as well as play japanese disk games.

Captain ego, Check this out!!

Hey guys,

I have one unit of Famicom Disk System!
Let me post some closer pictures!
(Matter of fact this unit I have sold --- I have another one MINT boxed!)

Cospefogo.

Wow, nice pictures! They look like a nice peice of hardware..Nice and shiny!

They are sooooo cool. One keeps coming on EBay at a buy it now price of 40 pounds. However, the postage from Hong Kong is another 60!

If I ever get an FDS, I'll probably get a Twin Famicom first, as it has an FDS Built-in.
