| I see Zelda 2 as a second son. You want him to be like his older brother at first, but then you realize that he is special in his own way and should be appreciated for that. This second son has mastered the upthrust and downthrust and has been killed thousands of times, only to be resurrected. O.K., so maybe he was adopted, but you can't just throw him out on the street. One of the classics. |

| By I_Love_SMB_1996 on 12/9/2004 4:49:56 PM |
| In this game. Link looks older than in The First Zelda. I'm guessing The creator made it years after Zelda. Zelda is fallen into endless sleep and you must save her! You're not a kid! |

| Why is it the oddball? |
| By Nabooru on 6/29/2004 2:55:25 PM |
Here is a game that doesn't recieve the credit that I think it deserves. It's been awhile since I have played Either Zelda game, and many like to refer to this one as the 'oddball'. I, however, think this game is a lot more like the Zelda games that modern Zelda fans appreciate now than the original.
Your character (Link) has the opportunity to travel to many times (a feature not incorperated in the original). He can communicate and learn from others, and gain some awesome spells that only items could grant in the original.
A couple of the 'oddball' factors are the ability to level up (which I don't recall in any other Zelda game from NES) and the side-scroll factor.
However, I think the music is better. I also think the game has a much darker feel than the original Zelda, and modern fans want that feel. I manage a Zelda group on MSN where the general appeal to Wind Waker has yielded some surprised and lickened appeals, however, fans cannot wait to see the much anticipated, new realistic game again. The feel that they had in OOT and MM--That it is 'darker' in a metaphoric sense.
Such is this game. From the very introduction to the final battle, a true and loyal fan will be strictened with an emotional stir. The sight of Zelda and the final battle, the innitial shocker-- That Link should fight his own dark side.
Look at it from this perspective, for after all, it is an RPG. Oh yea--It's a fun game to play too. ^_^
This and the original LOZ are two of the greatest RPG games for NES. Few others match it's superiority. |

| Under my expectations \ _ / |
| By Tiz89 on 6/8/2004 4:50:09 PM |
| Zelda II wasn't that great of a sequel. It lacked the fun factor of the original Zelda. Plus, the level-up system, although a nice addition to a Zelda game, really wasn't up to par (I mean, you lose all your experience points you've gained if you lose). Improved look and gameplay just wasn't enough to excite me. But still, hardcore Zelda fans would love this game. I don't know why...I feel bad for them for liking such a below average Zelda game. 4/10 at best...sorry fans. |

| By Bu Wzr on 4/17/2004 11:23:33 PM |
This is probably the second best game of all time...behind only Skies of Arcadia.
The music is the best in any game I've ever played (and I've played 'em all), and the final boss fight is the best of all time. I play this game at least twice a month, and although I can beat it in about a hour it still has not lost its brilliance. But if your not a real videogame player, very imaginative, or someone who takes the time to read books- don't waste your time, because not only are you not refined enough to notice the brilliance in games such as SoA, Halo, the Zeldas, or Final fantasy IX...your an idiot. So run back to Madden because I know just as well as you that it's the only game you can figure out...you bastard. |

| 4/5...because it used to make me cry |
| By chowhoundlove on 3/24/2004 10:05:04 PM |
| heh...I remember this game was one that used to make me cry. Granted I was in like, the third grade. I could never get the hammer, and I would get mad and throw the controller at the NES, and then it would mess up, and I would lose everything. Now I have the Gamecube edition, and thanks to some cheats I have finally been able to defeat Zelda II after fifteen years. |

| Zelda II sucks !!! |
| By WhiteDRG on 2/29/2004 2:42:54 PM |
All I can say is this is one of the worst games I've ever played. The sound is ok, but the graphics are really bad. The overworld map looks more than crappy.
The fighting system has another bad impact on the gameplay. The random fights with the short action-sceenes destroy the whole gameplay.
The only thing that seems to be well done form me is the possibility to Level-Up Link.
All in all this game is one of the biggest disappointments I ever experienced since I have my NES. I got the game for birthday over ten years ago and put it away right after I played it.

| Really Underrated |
| By kicker of ass on 11/12/2003 7:45:18 AM |
| I actually like this game better than the first Zelda. Although it is only a sequel to Zelda in terms of plot line and characters, the gameplay was a very clever touch, and it was challenging and fun to play. I think people would have liked this game better if it had been something entirely new and not a Zelda sequel. This is without a doubt one of the best games for the NES. I give 4 out of 4 stars. |

| Some people say it was worse that zelda but zelda 2 is the best I learned how to play this game when I was a child I never played the first but nothing can beat this game I whould trade in my XBOX for a nes and this game the idea of you as a square and black monster people running around was great and if they caught you you go into a a battle screan where you grew and monsters run aroun that you have to kill to move on its like young link and older link (hint hint) if you didnt like this game you suck. yah so its 8-bit every game was 8-bit at some point I love to listen to the music and replayibilty is not much fun but it takes at least 90 hours to beat and you get to save your game so your nes doent burn your house down. 8*/10(*infinity) |

| The Power is Yours, Nintendo HQ |

Yo! To all those who know about Zelda II, we need to get the word out.
The time has come to pollinate the world with the seeds of word of the great Zelda II.
At this tumultuous time, there is a most awe-inspiring site dedicated to the greatest video games of all-time: nintendoheadquarters.com. Here, the “Top 100” video game list is kept. You can vote for your favorite game every six months. Votes are updated quarterly on the first day of every: Jan., April, July, and Oct.
Check this nasty out and vote for Zelda II.
We need to thrust Zelda II, currently #31, higher up the rankings. Only a couple thousand votes separate it from #24, the great TMNT II.
Ah, you do not have to vote for this epic game called Zelda II. There are but thousands of great games out there.
Yet there is but only one Zelda II: The Adventure of Link.
Only one can be the greatest.
Sometimes I tell myself to vote for the deserving #110 game Banjo-Kazooie. Sometimes I tell myself to go with #1, Super Mario Bros. 3. Then again, sometimes I tell myself to play Bocce ball instead of basketball.
And sometimes I eat cereal without milk.
All I’ll tell you is follow your heart. Let the power of the Triforce flow from within you.
The power is yours and yours alone… do with it what you will.

| The best game for the NES |
| By Mike on 6/7/2003 2:56:21 AM |
This game was awsome, music exelent, gameplay is exelent. I can understand why some people don't like/ run for cover when this is mentiond, but I however love this game. By the way, who can't forget the Zelda theam/ overworld theam on other games? This is definatley a must try game.
Gameplay:
the gameplay for this is hard I do say so myself LOL and you can't finish this game in 1 sitting, I had the Gold cartrage, almost beat the game, took me what like 5 years, but if my NES system was still around, that is what I'll be playing, sometimes I remember leaving it on all night, forgeting to turn the game off, and waking up to that memerable theam, even after all thease years. I think all Zelda fans, whether or not you like it, will agree this is the most dificult game in the Zelda seires. Wich is good, compared to now when you buy a game and it take you like how many hours/ days to beat it, and just put it into a corner and never see it again untill you hunt for it.
Overall I'll give this a 1000/10
Althou I played both Zelda games for the NES, I perfer the second one. |

But these graphics are hideos!!!!
Insted of plain cool migit link,

(BUt the grapics make link a bit rude as his sorwd looks like his privates.)
This game is 2/10

This game was an alright game but think of this: If the name Zelda was not on it would you have liked it as much as you did? Remeber all the commercials that Nintendo ran and the fact the the first one was awsome... I bet... that if the name of the game was somthing like "Bobby goes out to kill some stuff" alot of people would have said stuff different!

This is the worst zelda game there is.
This game plain sucks. The graphics were improved over the orignal but the gameplay sucks. Its hard as hell. It just sucks. Give it a try youll know what i mean. If your a true zelda fan stick with Link to the past or the orignal zelda. This one is boring and repitive and the side view battles suck.
Graphics-7.5/10 Nothing new
Sound/Music-7.5/10 good for its time
gameplay-5/10-sucks
Overall-6/10

| The general idea of this game is excellent i think. What would you have wanted? another over-head-view game? i don't want to imagine what your complaints would have been like in that case... i think one could not have come up with a better successor of The Legend of Zelda. Simply an outstanding game. |

| Sometimes Underrated |
| By Eric on 1/31/2003 7:04:06 PM |
I think this game sometimes retrieves a lot of unfair critisism. I think in many ways, this game is BETTER than the original. Spells, power ups, more dialogue. It outdoes the original in many ways.
However, the awkward flirtation with side scrolling movement rather than the original's overhead view is what many complain about when it comes to this game, and I would have to agree with that.
However, once you get past this side scrolling awkwardness, a really fun and enjoyable game lies ahead. I just urge you all to give this one a chance. It may be as good as the original to some, may not to others, but its still a really great game. |

| By BombOmb on 1/11/2003 2:42:18 PM |
This is going to be the weirdest review I've ever wrote, so here goes:
I LOVE Ultima Exodus, I LOVE Dragon Warrior, I LOVE Kings Quest V, but... this game, I hated! I have no idea why, maybe it was the horrible translations, maybe it was the dialogue (or lack thereof), or maybe it was the map that had one too many dead ends. I just HATED this game and will never change my mind no matter how much I sit down and play it. |
|
| Love the title music! |
| By Scratchenator on 1/10/2003 10:57:08 AM |
Back in they NES heydays, Link was one of the first games I ever bought (the first one was Life Force, yes I suck). I remember playing it until my eyes were sored and my butt was acking from sofa excavating. I was very proud, as a mighty 80's geek, to own this plastic gold cartrige. Made me feel like a king without a crown or even a kingdom!
But anyway, my point is that I most remember Link for it's cool title music. The Excalibur-like title scene with THE music. Wow! To me, MY good old nes era comes to my mind whenever I hear it. And screw you guys who think the music is craptastic. It's an 80's keyboard hoedown for god's sake! At least it doesn't have that horrible 80's electronic drum attached to it! Give this game the glory it deserves! |

| What about the graphics? |
| By sabatha on 12/13/2002 1:03:20 PM |
I'll be honest in that I've never played the game. I started on Zelda in the N64 system. I don't think graphics are important, and I grew up on the NES system. I'd love to be able to play the Zelda games though, as I enjoy puzzlers and/or role playing games.
I think that in the midst of all the advances in gameplay technology, we've got to remember that graphics don't (or shouldn't) make the game. |

| By BeefCleaver on 12/13/2002 2:01:18 AM |
This game is not as good as the first one, but it is still an awsome game. I have palyed it several times all the way through and I still love every second of the game. Those orange, red, and blue knights are so cool.
9.5/10 Not the #1 NES game (Zelda 1 is) but certainly one of the greats. |
|
| Link, we hardly know ya. |
| By ToddVania on 10/6/2002 10:51:05 AM |
Oh well, what can you expect from a sequel? Sometimes you hit and in this case you miss. The gameplay is too fast and aggravating to be Zelda-like. The distances you have to travel are too great to be sent back to the beginning every time you die, and somehow the graphics, except for the start title page, are worse than the first one. The tricks Link does after awhile are cool, however, and so are the towns with their different secrets. Music is OK, and the enemies are challenging. I'll just play the first one before this, because it's simply a better game. 8 out of 10.
By the way--this site is missing a LOT of NES games! Where are Deadly Towers, Ikari Warriors, Trojan, Super Pitfall, and others? They deserve to be reviewed! Cool website, though.--ToddVania |

| By Dan on 4/7/2002 3:18:50 PM |
| i can understand why some ppl think zelda2 is a bad game, and i actually agreed wholeheartedly the first time i played it, but the truth is wen u really sit down and play it and (hopefully) beat it, you'll see that although its very different from the 1st zelda and the gameboy ones, its actually a very good game. i think the theme song and music are very nice, and once you really start to figure out what to do, it really shows you another side of the zelda games, and is not a bad departure from the original. i recommend playing this game b/c it really is alot of fun. and certainly the last bad guy is mad cool and makes a reappearence in zelda64. |

| Zelda II: greatly underestimated |
| By Sarah on 3/3/2002 5:07:50 PM |
I'm a 26-year-old gamer who followed the early days of the NES. My best friend had both Zelda and Adventure of Link. Like many people then, we were disappointed greatly by the sequel. I suppose we were expecting more of the same.
Well, guess what? My opinion of the game changed completely with the years. I now really like this game, although it isn't my fave Zelda game (my favorites in the series are the 2 Oracle games for the GBC). Granted, the experience point structure could be faster (the only thing I'd change if I were Nintendo and making a remake of it for, say, the GBA). But the gameplay is challenging and it's not the type of game that you can finish in one sitting.
So, give it a chance, and look at it not in comparison with the other Zelda games, but as is. |

i think that zelda 2 was a great game. I it posted a large challange to whom may have the spine to finish the task at hand. also remember that to the select few lucky people to be part of the nes generation, that game was top of the line. As oppose to say, spy hunter. when yo wake up to see that zelda 2 was a gfreat game, i will agree that you now use your brain.....thankyou |

In one sense there's three ways of looking at Zelda II: a bad way, a good way and then 'my way'.
Yea thats right, when i was little i owned the game which i bought for some hard earned cash :)
I played Zelda II before any other Zelda.. i just played it until i beat the bloody game!! It's like reading a book half way through and then forcing yourself to finish the book even though it is crap...i was just too stubborn...bah humbug!!
If you want my opinion play the game, finish it and then email me your favourite part of the game :)
i give the game 75%

| By Sondai on 8/13/2001 11:51:25 AM |
| How in the world could Nintendo mess up one of the best Games in the world? Easy, create a horrible sequel. Namely, Zelda 2. The game is trash, thash and more trash. If I want to play a game with lack of playability, I'll play Pong. The Graphics are better in Pong anyway. Do not Play this game, ever. |

| When the first Zelda game came out, everybody played it and said what a great game it was. Then, when Adventures of Link was released, it had an entirely different feel to it...but it is a marvelous game. The graphics were WAY better than the first, the sounds were okay and the gameplay was solid, albeit a bit cheap at times. Overall, a wonderful game to play. |
