Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles NES Review - A Great First Try

by Eric on Friday, January 31, 2003
I remember playing this game as a kid and absolutely hating it. I had the other two TMNT NES games, but I purposely passed over this one, as repeated rentals showed me only a very frustrating, poorly done game.

However, as the years went on, this game has grown on me. I finally own it, and its now one of my favorite NES games.

The graphic's weren't quite there yet, but the gameplay was pretty solid. I still don't like the monster things that are all over the game, I never saw those in the cartoon. But, I guess Konami (Ultra Games) wanted to take a few creative liberties with the enemies in this game.

My only other real complaint is that it is a little bit too difficult. I think that the game designers should have allowed the health status of all the Turtles be replenished to full after you complete each objective (IE, rescue April, save the dam, etc). But, I guess this can be forgiven.

This was the first step to the spectacualr arcade game port, where Konami perfected the TMNT game series.
