PacMan NES Review - Grade: A-

by Hokum on Monday, January 21, 2002
A very plain and faithful port of the arcade megahit - there are two versions, one Namco and the other by Tengen. Only difference is the company logos and color of the cartridge (Tengen released most of their games on special black carts). This can go for quite a bit of $$ - still, the two other Pac games for the NES, Ms. Pac-Man and Pac-Mania, are much more fun and varied. This gets an 'A' for the groundbreaking nature of the game and the seamless transition it's made to the NES, but I added the minus because Pac-Man is the least stimulating of the series and seems a little slow and predictable nowadays. Ms. Pac-Man is very similar but is faster and more challenging, with different mazes. Pac-Mania is a psuedo-3D version with larger courses. Choose which does more for ya.
