it's Donkey Kong & Donkey Kong Jr. on one cartridge, so if you like those 2 games... get it!

9/10

Game makers suffer memory loss....again.

You'd think Nintendo, who made the original aracade games in this cart back in the '80's, would get it right. I guess the only way we can play the true arcade versions is to buy the goddamned arcade versions, which Nintendo probably wants us to do. Where the hell is: The cement factory stage in Donkey Kong, the ape measure asking how far you'll make it, the blue barrels, etc. Donkey Kong Jr. is more complete, but us older gamers were proud of the fact that we could get to Mario's Hideout--it wasn't just one of the normal screens, you had to live through about 8 screens to get to it, and it had a cute intro. Also, Donkey Kong doesn't kick the shit out of Mario.
These might sound like small things, but they're what make us remember these games sometimes.
However, overall, this is a good cart if you want the basics. The graphics are faithful (unlike the horrible Atari 2600 version--I like to forget I ever owned that thing), and so is the music. This is probably as close as we'll ever get to the arcade versions. I'll give 7 out of 10.

What a Classic

It's so cool! It's two games in one! But why does mario have a sqeaker in his shoe?

Faithful ports of the arcade... or almost
By Sarah on 3/3/2002 6:09:51 PM
If it weren't for the missing pie factory level in DK, it'd be a perfect port of the original arcade games. Graphically, it's identical, and the gameplay (especially the jumping) is less frustrating than the ColecoVision port.

As someone who spent way too much time playing DK for the Atari 2600, I can tell you that this version is worth it if you're a retrogamer.

My fave level? It's gotta be the key locks level in DK Jr!!!

Here's Your Kong Cart

If you crave Kong for the NES, this is the cartridge to get. Both Donkey Kong games are way too short (they should have edited the pie factory level back into the first one for this release, but didn't...) - but combined on this cartridge, it's an okay buy for nostalgic gamers.

Classics of Donkey Kong

This game is a cool classic! The graphics are OK. In Donkey Kong it's OK, but I think heard something in his shoe. Donkey Kong Jr. is my favorite out of these two games.
